Massage Therapy Career

There are few careers that have seen such a meteoric rise in recent years as massage therapy careers. Current massage therapy jobs statistics suggest that there are three times as many people using massage therapists in the USA than there were ten years ago. As of April 2005, 35 US states now regulate massage therapists. The ever-increasing acceptance of alternative therapies, and the incorporation of massage in many corporate health strategies, means that this incredible massage therapy job growth should continue.

If you have a degree in massage therapy, you will have a range of rewarding careers to choose from. Many massage therapists choose to be self-employed, building up a reputation and list of clients. A licensed massage therapist can choose to practice in several areas or massage therapy, or to specialize. Either way, here are some of the areas of massage therapy that are seeing massive job growth:

  • Corporate massage therapy - companies are saving millions by offering massage therapy as an employee benefit
  • Stress relief and relaxation massage - this can be practiced in spas, ships, holiday resorts and private practices
  • Medical massage - this can include rehabilitation, pain relief, and can occur in hospitals, surgeries, clinics and private practices. An increasing number of doctors habitually refer patients for massage therapy.
  • Post and pre-natal massage.
  • Sports massage.

As you can see, along with a growth in massage therapy job statistics, massage therapy jobs have also seen a growth in variety. No two days will be the same for a self-employed massage therapist, apart from the satisfaction of a worthwhile career helping people.
